Human Geography Map
Content Covered
Background of Lesson
I have the students make a map of Utah on this day. This is to help them get familiar with reading maps, and help them realize where some things in Utah are. Depending on the resources you have, you might have to do this different (such as doing it on paper, rather than the computer). I usually stress to the students that I don't care that they are 100% accurate on the map, I care more about them learning how to read a map, practice that skill, and recognize some things about Utah (like how most of the population is centered around the Wasatch Front, that the national parks are located in Southern Utah, etc.)
Instructions for Lessons
I introduce the assignment, then set them to work.
Here are the directions I give:
Start by downloading this pdf: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WZ6H_Sy38I87fMdRjtq9xZUhQCadPzuz/view
Follow the directions in this video: https://youtu.be/l9btts7Ud2Q
I discuss in the video that students need to complete the assignment in Microsoft Edge because it's built in PDF editor is way more useful than Chrome's. If your students don't have Edge on their computers, then they can always use a different software (such as Kami).
Use Google Maps to find the locations, then place them in the correct spot on the map.
Here are the locations you should find:
